There are many different people and groups working in a decentralized, grassroots way to organize Earth Day & May Day events. So what ties these efforts together? Here are four simple guidelines for organizing:
1. Convergence means “coming together” and is central to the call for Earth Day – May Day actions. We encourage Earth Day – May Day organizers to bring diverse people, groups and issues together on common ground.
2. We recommend coming together under the shared slogan “People, Planet, and Peace over Profit!” All our voices are amplified when we have a shared message.* Additionally, we embrace “Universalizing Resistance & Democratizing Power” as an overall theme that connects resistance to building participation and realizing power.
4. We recommend that you refer to the call for a solution as big as the crisis we face – a Global Green New Deal to bring about social, economic and environmental justice around the world.
The Global Climate Convergence for People, Planet and Peace is a nonviolent movement committed to peaceful, transformational change.
The Global Climate Convergence does not support any one political party, politician or candidate. We do, however, strongly support political and electoral engagement free of the corrupting influence of big money, for-profit lobbying, and corporate influence-peddling.
* “People, Planet, and Peace over Profit” summarizes our call for social, economic, and environmental justice, and asserts that these goals should be prioritized over the narrow corporate interests that have come to dominate our public policy, economy and society.
** The logo of an open hand holding the Earth has dual symbolism. The hand is open to connect with all people and invite them to join us. It holds the Earth because we collectively hold the future of our planet – and humanity – in our hands.
